(Verse 1)
From a legendary place came a legendary face Cindy was her name
Born in deadwood in 1960 Child care would be her game
Growing up at school she loved recess and being outside
It took almost three summers on water skis to finally get up and ride
Never got in trouble and never played sports Didn’t even get in a fight
She loved being social and her favorite teacher knew how to
Make her day bright
(Pre-Chorus)
Just like she would do for so many of you
(Chorus)
Cindy Delahoyde she’s brought so much joy to children in the past
Shaping their lives telling em to do what’s right good golly do they grow up fast
And remember this you’ll be fine, Cindy’s wisdom is smile and be kind
(Verse 2)
Graduated high school in 1978
She knew her husband since 7th grade and how they met would seem like fate
Her first job was as a bank teller and that just didn’t fit
She quickly realized her future would be helping all the kids
After 47 years of childcare the only thing that she could regret
Is if she did enough to make their lives better but we will never forget
(Pre-Chorus)
Everything she did for every single kid
(Chorus)
(Bridge)
Things that she holds dear are her family and kids in her life
Things she wants to do is keep seeing it through as a mother and a wife
Grandkids and more what next is in store for a woman of Cindy’s might
Maybe a trip to Pittsburg but nowhere too hot ‘cuz the fall weather is just right
(Last Chorus)
Cindy Delahoyde she’s brought so much joy to children in the past
Shaping their lives telling ‘em to do what’s right good golly do they grow up fast
Working day and night she has some advice smile at someone you don’t know
her favorite thing is the joy that it brings to watch her kids grow
And remember this you’ll be fine, Cindy’s wisdom is smile and be kind (x2)
Cindy Delahoyde was born in 1960 in Deadwood, South Dakota. Her father, Delbert, was in the service. Her mother, Eugenia, came to the United States from Ukraine. Cindy, the youngest, grew up in a household with three siblings. She had one brother and two sisters. Cindy loved being outdoors. Socializing in school was her favorite.
Mrs. Filmore, her fourth-grade teacher, was her favorite teacher because she was kind and could brighten her day. After graduating in 1978 from Lead High School, she married her best friend from seventh grade, Bruce. From this marriage, three sons were born. Their names are Jason, Josh, and Jeremy. They have given her six wonderful grandchildren. She loves them all deeply.
Cindy’s first job was as a bank teller, but she quickly realized her calling as a childcare provider. She has been caring for children for nearly half a century. Her daycare was more than just a place where she took care of children; it functioned as a second home for them. Each year she had the daycare kids run a lemonade stand to help teach them responsibility. Cindy’s proudest moments have been doing what she loves to do and loving all children. Her family and her daycare kids are the things closest to her heart.
Mrs. Delahoyde has lived in Spearfish for the past 47 years. She has impacted countless lives along the way. Her advice for young people today is to smile at someone every single day. She would also like people to treat others the way they would want to be treated. Cindy shared her wisdom to always smile and be kind!
